Government has taken robust measures to improve livestock nutrition in drought prone districts through the initiation of pasture development programme under the Presidential Livestock Inputs Scheme.
Livestock play a critical role in the sustenance of most rural communities and commercial farmers in Zimbabwe since it helps in food supply, family income, assets saving, soil productivity, agricultural traction coupled with sustainable agricultural production.
The programme is targeting 5 provinces, namely Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Masvingo, Midlands and Manicaland.
Speaking at the 7thpost cabinet press meeting Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Monica Mutsvangwa said government will accelerate rehabilitation of existing irrigation infrastructure.
“There will be development of new irrigation infrastructure where water bodies are available, including reviewing of communal irrigation models to improve water and irrigation infrastructure management and transform farming from subsistence to market-oriented business,” Mutsvangwa said.
