Government has received five thousand doses of the Sinovac vaccine from SeedCo in an effort to complement government efforts in the fight against COVID-19.
Seed manufacturing firm handed over the doses of the Sinovac vaccine to government through the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement this Monday.
The doses of the vaccine will be distributed to Agritex officers in the Mandebvu community.
SeedCo Regional Managing Director, Edwards Mhandu said Agritex officers are important to the farming community hence it is important to ensure that they are protected from COVID-19.
“Today we are presenting 5000 doses which vaccinates 2500 people. We saw it fit to partner government as it cannot do it alone.
“We want to emphasize the importance of Agritex to the farming community, in the engagement with farmers, Seed Co agronomy staff work very closely with Agritex who are found at ward district and provincial level all over the country,” Mhandu said.
Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister Dr Anxious Masuka undercored that his ministry has set a target of ensuring that everyone in the sector is vaccinated by mid-August.
“The agriculture sector is an essential service sector and it’s of utmost importance that we submit ourselves to this national vaccination programme. As the Ministry of Agriculture, by 16 August we must achieve 100 percent vaccination.
