Afreximbank to set up a trade hub in Harare

Local Government and Public Works and National Housing ministry availed land for the construction of a US$100 million Afreximbank Africa Trade Centre (AATC) Regional Office.

As an initiative to foster the realisation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), AATC is one of the flagship scheme that will accelerate the free trade area.

The facility, which is set aside to become a one-stop-shop centre for the conduct of Intra-African trade will be a platform to promote and convey trade information as well as critical services vital to the realisation of the objectives of the AfCFTA.

The facility which is going to be situated in Harare will accommodate the bank’s regional office, a world class hotel, a major conference and trade exhibition centre, trade informatio facility and a technology incubation lab.

AATC is envisioned to make Harare an Intra-African Trade hub for the Southern African region.

Addressing delegates at the event, Local Government Minister, July Moyo acknowledged the gesture by Afreximbank as it compliments government’s efforts to upgrade and renovate structures around the city.

“On behalf of Government, I am very happy to hand over this piece of land which has been earmarked for the development, as we move forward to build our smart cities including regeneration of old dilapidated centres in our cities.

“We look forward that Afreximbank through working here will change the skyline and modernise the smart cities,” Moyo said.
