Cement, an indispensable ingredient in infrastructure development: ED

President Emmerson Mnangagwa commended the work done by PPC Zimbabwe for being critical enablers in the modernisation, industrialisation and provision of social services for economic growth.

Portland Holdings Ltd, which trades as PPC, is the country’s largest and oldest cement manufacturer.

During a tour recently at PPC manufacturing plant in Harare President Mnangagwa said cement is an essential ingredient in infrastructure development and expands in tandem with the projected demand according to the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).

“The tour is most important as it coincidence with the 2021 National Budget Statement which summarises what the industry must anticipate, as such, construction industry must seize these opportunities to meet demand,” President Mnangagwa said.

He applauded the company for the deployment of more efficient and environmentally friendly technology on its plant, he urged the industry to increase production through research and development, new technologies and innovation.

“The strategies and equipment that you deploy must seek to make you not only competitive for the local market, but for the export market as well, I urge you to ensure that the cost of cement products must be affordable to the final user,” he said.

The Second Republic has been accelerating private sector driven economy growth and prosperity for the attainment of national development targets as outlined in National Development Strategy 1.
