Players in the Victoria Falls tourism industry are optimistic that renewed interest by regional and international airlines to fly into the destination will incite increased tourist traffic and support the recovery of the hospitality industry.
Zimbabwes tourism capital, Victoria Falls has been the biggest beneficiary of governments open skies policy and ongoing efforts to improve destination accessibility.
Since the commissioning of the new-look Victoria Falls International Airport, aggressive marketing efforts by government and renewed appetite by more regional and international airlines to fly into the destination have excited tourism players in the resort city.
Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe Victoria Falls Chairperson, Anald Musonza said the move has generated a lot of interest from a number of international airlines that have started flying into Victoria Falls.
“We have also seen interest from trans-Atlantic airlines trying to fly directly into Victoria Falls and there is appetite from international airlines who are keen to come to this region and to this destination,” said Musonza.
Going forward, tourism players in the resort city say there is also need to put more effort towards relaxation of the VISA regime and capacitation of the national flag carrier, Air Zimbabwe.
Under the National Tourism Recovery and Growth Strategy, government is targeting to among other things improve destination accessibility to achieve a 5 billion United States dollar tourism economy by 2025.
